What Happens During the Photoshoot
A typical newborn session is gentle, unhurried and structured around your baby’s needs.
We usually begin with getting photos of your baby comfortably awake and then proceed with settling your baby into natural, comfortable poses using soft wraps and safe positioning techniques.
We then move through different setups, which may include:
* Simple wrapped portraits
* Natural posing on soft blankets
* Parent and family images
* Sibling photographs (if applicable)
We take breaks whenever needed for feeding, cuddles or soothing.
Nothing is ever rushed.
Your baby’s comfort always comes first.

Newborn Safety Is at the Heart of Everything We Do
One of the most important parts of newborn photography is safety — and it is something we take extremely seriously at Mini Bee Photography.
Sam, our newborn photographer is trained in safe newborn handling and posing techniques, ensuring every position is supported, natural and secure at all times.
Here’s how we prioritise safety during every session:
1. Baby-Led Posing
We never force babies into positions. Every pose is guided by what your baby naturally settles into, ensuring comfort at all times.
2. Supported Positions Only
All posing is fully supported using hands, props or soft surfaces to keep your baby safe and secure.
3. Constant Supervision
Your baby is never left unattended. We are always within arm’s reach during every setup. We also may ask parents to get involved too when doing the wrapped photos so your baby is never left beyond arms reach
4. Safe Studio Environment
Our studio is kept warm, clean and carefully controlled to support newborn comfort and safety.
5. No Risky Poses
We do not use unsafe poses. Everything we create is natural, gentle and baby-friendly.
Your baby’s wellbeing is always the priority above everything else.

Parents Are Always Involved
Many parents are surprised by how involved they can be during a newborn session. You are welcome to stay close, relax, and watch your baby’s session unfold.
We also encourage family and sibling images, capturing those first precious connections in a natural and meaningful way. These often become some of the most treasured photographs from the entire session.

When Is the Best Time for Newborn Photos?
The ideal time for newborn photography is usually within the first 2–3 weeks after birth, when babies are still naturally sleepy and curled. However, every baby is different, and beautiful images can be captured at any stage. We can capture babies up to 3 months. If your baby is older, we will simply adjust the session to suit their comfort and development.

We provide everything needed for styling, wraps and setups for your baby. You just need to bring your baby’s essentials and clothes for anyone (except baby) that will be in the photos. We will discuss this with you at your pre-shoot telephone call.
What if my baby doesn’t sleep?
